Useful Information

We offer a range of services to prisoners' families

Refreshments
Hot and cold drinks and snacks are available for purchase in the Visitors' Centre. Send Family Link runs a tea bar staffed by volunteers in the Visits Hall. If you would like to order a birthday cake please ask Visitors' Centre staff at least a week before your visit. You can call the Centre with an order on 01483 471090.

Play Facilities
There are well-equipped play areas in both the Visitors' Centre and the Visits Hall. In the Visits Hall staff and volunteer playworkers are available to facilitate play activities, including arts and crafts. Please remember that children are at all times the responsibility of their parent or carer.

Children's Visits
We run Childrens's Visits for mothers with children ages 0 - 16 during school holidays and half terms. One carer must accompany each family. The visits run from 11am to 4pm and include activities for all ages and lunch in the dining hall. The mother applies for the visit and no Visiting Order is needed.

Contact Send Family Link for dates of upcoming Children's Visits and for information about other special visits provided by HMP Send.

Advice and Guidance
Send Family Link's trained and experienced staff are available to talk with you about any concerns you may have. We are available before and after visit sessions, and can also be contacted by telephone or email. Messages can be left 24 hours a day and we will usually respond within a day or two. We also respond to enquiries from prisoners about visits or family issues. If a prisoner has a question for our staff she can send a Residential Application to the Visitors' Centre. We will make sure we speak with her or send a written reply, as appropriate.

Useful Information

HMP SEND SAFER CUSTODY
Are you concerned that a prisoner may be at risk of harm?

Anyone who is concerned that a prisoner may be at risk of harm - be it self harm, harm from others or harm to others - can contact the prison 24 hours a day on 01483 471000 and ask to speak to the Orderly Officer (Oscar 1). Information will be passed to the area of the prison where the prisoner resides so appropriate action can be taken.

BRINGING PROPERTY
Property can be handed in on a visit when the prisoner you are visiting is eligible for a hand in. New arrivals at Send have 28 days to have property handed in, after which property can be handed in every two months. Please check with the prisoner what she is allowed to have handed in.

SENDING MONEY
Money can be send in by means of a postal order made out to 'H M Prison Service', with the prisoner's name and number written on the back.

ORDERING FLOWERS AND NEWSPAPERS
Flowers can be ordered for delivery to the prison via Interflora, or direct through Richardson's florist in Ripley (01483 225322). Newspapers can be ordered through Patel's newsagents in Send (01483 223314).
